Admin and Author

I am Shiva Kumar Lachapeta, a Certified Equity Research Analyst, Stock and F&O Trader, Value Investor, and Content Writer. I have been active in the field of Indian Stock Markets since 2017 and alternative asset classes since March 2020. With certifications from world famous institutions and academies like University of Geneva and NSE, my journey has been both exciting and proficient by adopting theoretical knowlege in practical and real investments.

Entry into Stock Markets

I tried almost every investment idea like Mutual Fund Schemes, Blue Chip, Mid Cap, Small Cap, Dividend Stocks, Income Stocks, Growth Stocks, PSUs, Financial Sector, Manufacturing Sector, FMCG Sector, F&O etc., almost all the ideas that are recommended in the Media, major Finance websites, many professional investors and fund managers’ blogs. None of them provided any sort of return promised (nevertheless, it is always mentioned in the disclaimer that stock investments are subjected to market risks, consult your financial adviser before investing).

It is understandable if the investment tips do not perform some times, but investment tips and ideas by so-called experts and top financial brokerage firms failed me more than 80% of the time.

I mostly ended up losing 40% to 50% of my invested money in the first two years. I was confused and had no idea of the difference between investing, trading, speculating, and gambling. As I was not from financial and accounting background, none of the technical jargon like alpha, beta, variance, Bollinger Bands, and some of the ridiculously named candlestick patterns did not make my life any easier in the investing field.

Most of the major financial websites confuse the readers with the flooded data, tens of articles daily covering any news from Coronavirus to politicians switching between the political parties to breakups of movie actors. I came across some firms with “value investing” as their motto but involved in intra-day trading and future & options, which are very different from the value or long term investing.

Choosing Equity Research as a Career

After struggling for two years and losing a substantial amount of money, I have started my research on the Global & Indian economies and Stock Market investments.

I am confident and do not sell my investments even though their market price fall because the quality of investment is what that matters and not the vague promises from high return stocks which lack even fundamentals.

Some of the SEBI registered financial advisors on YouTube were positive on Yes Bank shares when they first dropped falling since April 2019, even I was convinced of buying the shares at ₹70/-, but had to hold back since the Yes Bank stock lacked the strength in fundamentals. As on 06/03/20, the share tanked to ₹5.6/-; it recovered and trading at ₹28/- as on 11/03/20.

We can only imagine the pity of novel retail investors who bought the shares at the beginning of the year 2019 or even before. The operators use schemes like pump and dump to trap new retail investors and traders.

Shift Towards Alternative Assets

Staying invested only in Stock Markets or Equity is not an appropriate investment approach for any investor either a novice or an expert. Personally, I felt the heat during the frightening experience of witnessing Nifty and other stock markets crashing by over 40% in less than a month.

I began my research on various asset classes. Amongst all, Gold is the most valuable alternative asset with negative correlation both to Debt and Equity Markets. In the website, you can find information on Gold and other Commodities.

Why Value Investing Online?

Meanwhile, as a content writer, I felt that my notes would also be helpful to common retail investors who are still confused about investing in Stock Markets. So I will be posting my articles on the website. I am focused on improving my skills even further and provide as much valuable information as possible to the readers.

Contrary to many websites, Value Investing Online provides information strictly restricted to Investing in Good Companies for Long Term, as propagated by legendary investors like Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffet, Peter Lynch, etc. The content will be in simple and plain English without too much technical jargon and complex clauses with stringent grammar so that readers could easily grasp the content.
